Like most Fernandine churches, it was built on the site of a former mosque of which the minaret, converted into a Christian tower, remains. Its original architectural features have been returned to it thanks to the restoration work carried out. It contains numerous works of artistic interest, such as the 15th century Cristo de las Penas.
