Construction work on the church, founded as a Royal Collegiate in the 14th century and located in Bulevar del Gran Capitán, did not finish until the 18th century, conserving its medieval Gothic eastern end.
The tombs of kings Fernando IV and Alfonso XI El Justiciero are in the presbytery while that of the learned Ambrosio de Morales is in the cloister.
